iPhone 15 Pro Series Launched With a 5x Camera, Faster Chip & Much More

The tech giant has finally announced the most exciting smartphone in the world. Powered by the world’s most powerful smartphone chip, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max offer some of the most unique features. Apple also announced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, new Apple Watches along with USB-C AirPods Pro.

New Design, New Colors, New Button & more

With the iPhone rumor mill finally coming to a halt, we finally saw what the Cupertino giant ended up with. Both the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have thinner bezels with the same 120Hz Promotion display. The iPhone 14 Pro series from last year had a Stainless Steel frame and the 15 Pro series sports a Grade 5 Titanium frame. The new frame would make your thousand-dollar investment a lot more durable.

Unlike our earlier reports, the Pro series phones come with white braided USB-C 2.0 cables in the box.

This year Apple replaced the Gold color variant with a Natural Titanium color. You can also grab the iPhone 15 Pro series in Blue Titanium, White Titanium, or Black Titanium finishes.

USB-C Port

Seeing or should I say, C-ing is believing, and thanks to the EU for making this come to life. All our prayers were finally answered and we finally got rid of the dreaded Lighting ports. The 2023 iPhone lineup features USB-C ports, even the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

The tech giant has made a clear distinction between the USB-C ports on the Pro and the regular iPhones. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max support faster USB-C  speeds i.e. Thunderbolt speeds up to 10Gb/s. The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are limited to the old Lighting cable’s speeds of 480Mbps. In true Apple fashion, the tech giant did not include a 3.0 USB-C cable in the box. So, you’ll have to shell out extra money to take full advantage of the faster data transfer speeds.

New Chip – Who dis?

The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are powered by the most powerful smartphone chip on the planet. The new A17 Pro is built using a 3nm process. In simple terms, it now packs millions more transistors in the same chip size. These next-gen transistors are more power efficient than the last generation. So, not only your new iPhone 15 Pro would process tasks a lot faster but also it would consume less battery than before.

Furthermore, the new chip has a 2x faster Neural Engine, 20% faster GPU with hardware accelerated Ray Tracking, and 10% faster CPU. This translates to unmatched performance on a mobile device. For instance, Apple is bringing console games to the iPhone 15 Pro series in the coming months, that too with Ray Tracing. The list of games includes Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the iconic Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and a few more.

Cameras that’ll blow four mind

The Pro series camera game was already strong and this year’s upgrades take it up a number. We still have the same 48MP camera and the 3x telephoto from last year. The big surprise this year is that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a new telephoto lens that offers 5x optical zoom. For reference, the iPhone 14 Pro Max had a 3x telephoto lens.

You’ll notice the camera bump of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is slightly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro and for good reason. Zoom cameras require more physical space and as a result, the entire internal structure of the bigger Pro iPhone had to be adjusted. This camera addition places the flagship model into the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra league. You can easily capture faraway objects with impressive stabilization.

Thanks to the new A17 chipset, all cameras on the Pro series can now take full advantage of new image-processing software algorithms aka Photonic Engine.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the iPhone 15 Pro and the camera specs

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max camera specs

  • Ultra Wide Camera: 12 megapixels, ƒ/2.2 aperture
  • Main Camera: 48 megapixels,  ƒ/1.78 aperture
  • 3x Telephoto Camera: 12 megapixels, ƒ/2.8 aperture
  • 5x Periscope Telephoto Camera: 12 megapixels, ƒ/2.8 aperture (available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max only)

All these cameras have second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization so your shots are always crispy. Apart from this, the Pro iPhones can do a lot more this year, like capturing Super-high-resolution photos in 24MP and 48MP that too in ProRAW and HEIC formats. Along with this the devices also support 4K@60fps recording in ProRes both externally and internally.

Pricing and Availability

Now for the not-so-good part, the tech giant will charge $100 more for this year’s flagships. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 and its elder sibling starts at $1100. Here’s a quick look at the pricing of the iPhone 15 Pro series.

iPhone 15 Pro Price iPhone 15 Pro Max Price
128GB  $999 256GB  $1199
256GB  $1099 512GB  $1399
512GB  $1299 1TB  $1599
1TB  $1499

Apple’s pulled off a bold move with the increase in price tags. With the smartphone industry facing a slump and has practically come to a halt, it’d be interesting to see how the new flagship phones perform in sales.

You can pre-order the iPhone1 5 Pro series from Apple’s website today and they’ll be available on 22nd September 2023.
