Apple to launch MacBooks with M3 chips this fall

According to reports from Bloomberg, Apple is testing multiple variants of the M3 chip in its upcoming MacBooks lineup. A new Mac with the latest chip will reportedly arrive around October. It is rumored that the top-end chip will feature four additional high-performing CPU cores and at least two extra GPU cores as compared to the M2 Max.

The Cupertino giant is reportedly testing the M3 chips in new iMacs, 13/15” MacBook Air, 13” MacBook Pro, and Mac Minis. All these models will be launched with the M3 chip within a year. Likewise, the high-end MacBooks like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will also be updated with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips and are likely to hit the shelves in 2024.

The standard M3 chip is rumored to feature configurations like the M2 chip launched last year. There will be an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, whereas the M3 Pro will feature a 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU. The high-end M3 Max will have a 16-core CPU and 40-core GPU. It has been long-rumored that Apple is planning to shift to

TSMC’s new 3nm process to bump up the efficiency and performance. The company is also expected to use the 3nm process for the new A17 chip coming with iPhone 15 series, this September. This will allow the new generation devices to offer significantly better battery life and performance.

Logically speaking, Apple could ramp up the Mac release to regain it’s dropping sales numbers as the desktop and laptop lineup saw below-par sales after COVID. Bloomberg also reports that Apple is eyeing to launch products in October.
