Mi True Wireless Earphones 2: All you need to know

Xiaomi launched its first wireless earbuds in India along with the Mi 10 5G smartphone and the Mi Box 4K at an online event on May 8, 2020. The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 has a design similar to the Apple AirPods and offers impressive sound quality at an affordable price.

Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 Overview

Design

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 features a semi in-ear design with anti-slip materials and 14.2mm dynamic drivers. Xiaomi says they have specially optimized the sound for the Indian market, tuning the audio for Bollywood-style and other bass-heavy music. Each of the earbuds feature two microphones, one on the top that specifically works to minimize background noise, and the other mic on the bottom which is dedicated for audio calls. Xiaomi claims these earbuds can reduce up to 90% of the ambient background noise. However, there’s a caveat here which is that it only works while you’re on call.

These earphones, like the AirPods, come in a solid design without any cushioning or earbuds. Xiaomi says they have uniquely optimized the shape of the earphones by carefully mapping millions of ears in simulation software. As far as the weight is concerned, these earbuds are incredibly light. Each earbud weighs around 4 gm and the total weight of earbuds with the case is 50gm.

Connectivity and Sensors

The Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 support Bluetooth 5.0, with the regular SBC, and AAC, along with LHDC (Low Latency and High Definition Audio Codec). This ensures extraordinary audio performance.

They feature gesture-based controls on both the earbuds from the basic actions like music playback to accessing voice assistants. Supported voice assistants include Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri. The earphones also feature proximity sensors that automatically pause when you take either of the earbuds out of your ears, and resume once you put them back in. The best thing about this feature is that it works on all iOS, Android, and Windows devices. The earbuds additionally offer fast pairing and the ability to see the battery life of each earbud on MIUI 11 running devices only.

Battery

In terms of battery, each earbud packs a 30mAh unit, while the charging case has a 250mAh battery capacity. Xiaomi says the Mi True Wireless Earphones 2 can last up to 4 hours on a full charge, with the case being able to deliver an additional 10-hour battery life.
