DXOMark rates iPhone 8 Plus as the best smartphone camera in the world!

DXOMark has recently gained a lot of popularity based on their smartphone camera ratings. Some of us swear by their ratings while some just don’t care. Well, if you’re on the fence about buying an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus, here’s some motivation for you to go get it.

DXOMark has rated the iPhone 8 Plus’ camera as the best smartphone camera that they’ve tested in their labs. The title was held for almost a year by the Google Pixel and Pixel XL and later tied by HTC U11. Both these phones had an excellent score of 90/100.

However, the iPhone 8 Plus takes it up a notch by getting a cool 94/100. That’s just 6 points away from perfection.

In their review they lauded the iPhone’s capability to produce excellent shots in almost every lighting condition. They also had praises for the new Studio lighting effects emulated by Apple exclusively in the 8 Plus models.

Here’s a gorgeous picture they clicked using the 8 Plus-

For the uninitiated, here are the camera specifications of the iPhone 8 Plus-

  • 12MP main (wide-angle) camera with BSI sensor, f/1.8 lens
  • 12MP telephoto camera, f/2.8 lens
  • Optical zoom, with digital zoom up to 10x
  • Portrait mode
  • Portrait Lighting (beta)
  • Optical image stabilization (main camera only)
  • Quad-LED True Tone flash with Slow sync
  • Autofocus with focus pixels
  • Wide-gamut color capture
  • Body and face detection
  • AutoHDR

Of course, we’ve been told that the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus have extremely similar camera setups, so that’s some great news for you if you’re holding out for the iPhone X. But until then, if you plan on getting the iPhone 8 Plus, do know that you are getting the best camera that’s currently available on any smartphone.
